THEATER REVIEW: An eclectic and fun opening to SaraSolo 2016 festival by Jay Handelman "Christine Alexander has a different kind of comic spirit that emerges from her popular improv performances. In the last year, she has been expanding her repertoire with one-person shows. The latest is called “Next,” in which she plays a radio talk show host with questions and calls from the audience. She plays multiple characters and gets out some great lines and ideas, but the show needs a bit more structure to allow her the freedom to play around with it. The talk show allows for a lot of variety. Now her work should be focused on refining the format without making it too smooth,. She already knows how to reach an audience."
Theater Review: An eclectic, engaging mix for debut SaraSolo Festival by Jay Handelman Florida Studio Theatre Improv standout Christine Alexander is branching out with her show “On the Brink of the Next,” a one-woman improv show, in which she holds the stage for 40 minutes with help from audience suggestions directing her through a day when she discovers her second husband wants a divorce. Alexander is fun to watch and is skilled at keeping focus and recalling earlier references to get a laugh later in the show, as she touches us with a funny and human story. She also could be a bit more specific in her pantomime of her morning rituals. (Alexander has been called on to fill in at 1 p.m. Feb. 28 to fill in for Zach Dorn, who had to drop out of the festival because of an ill family member.)
Read the whole article here: http://www.sarasotafoodies.com/hot-spots/mozzarella-fella/ ... "Think only the downtown business crowd has made Mozzarella Fella a hit? Oh Noooooo! On our first visit I spotted Joe Panek, local celebrity/actor and star of Saratopia – a YouTube series that takes a irreverent spin on all things Sarasota. Joey is in line at the counter with actress/improv artist Christine Alexander, who is equally brilliant, irreverent and funny in the Lazy Fairy Improv troupe. I decide to sneak a quick photo. . . No one will notice, right?
Busted! Fortunately Joey and Christine are tickled to be the victims of my weak attempt at playing paparazzi, and they stop by our table to say hello. Wouldn’t you know it? They’re fans of SarasotaFoodies too!
Local celebrities Joey Panek and Christine Alexander love the Fella!
One of my favorite episodes of Saratopia is entitled “Joey’s Birthday Dinner”, which tells a humorous story on how quickly new restaurants open in town. I’ve added the link here so you can enjoy it too! Make sure you watch it to the very end. The outtakes with Christine are almost the best part!"
After a laughter-filled hit winter season, FST Improv returns for a special spring fling run of "April Fools." This hilarious series will feature a no fools barred smack down, culminating in the crowning of the "fool of fools." The comedy begins on Saturday, April 13th for a limited engagement continuing Fridays and Saturdays April 19, 20, 26 and 27 at 8:30 pm in the new John C. Court Cabaret.
In "April Fools," the troupe from FST Improv will take audience suggestion to an all new level. Two teams will duke it out in the high-energy competition where the audience gets to vote for the ultimate prize: the crowning of the fool of fools. Plus, each improv member has the opportunity to challenge their fellow cast members to a battle of laughs. Get ready for a knock-down drag out battle of wits where there's only one guarantee: no matter who loses, the audience wins.
"We first created this show as a special one night only event in 2010," said Rebecca Hopkins, FST Improv director and MC. "It sold out fast and the audience loved it. We have wanted to bring it back, but it hasn't fit our schedule. So when the opportunity arose we thought we would help shake down the Court Cabaret with a laugh-off. It's the perfect show for spring fling."
The FST Improv cast includes Adam Ratner, Christine Alexander, Tim Beasley, Angel M. Parker, Darryl Knapp, Steve Turrisi, Chris Friday, Catey Brennan and Jim Prosser on the piano. All will be returning in April to try to take the crown.
FST Improv: April Fools performances will begin April 13, 2013 and run for a limited engagement through April 27, 2013 in FST's John C. Court Cabaret. Tickets are $12 per person and may be purchased from the FST Box Office in person, by phone at (941) 366-9000 or online at www.FloridaStudioTheatre.org. FST is located in historic downtown Sarasota at 1241 North Palm Avenue, Downtown Sarasota.
It's FST Immmmprovvv "The stand-out, raw, comic talent of that particular evening, to my mind, was Christine Alexander, whose quick-witted, goofy, committed and utterly unself-conscious performance lets it all hang out, which is what it takes to do great improv, ultimately."
